Changed my mind about Euro-style board games after a bad night

I used to think Euro games were just boring resource management exercises. Then my group played a game called The Gallerist at a local shop in Portland last Saturday. The way the auction system tied into the art world theme actually made every decision feel meaningful instead of just math. Has anyone else had a game change their mind about a whole genre?

Wait, doesn't The Gallerist use a worker placement system instead of an auction mechanic?

Hang on @john_fisher, you're mixing up two different things here. The Gallerist actually uses a worker placement system, but the auction mechanic is from a different game called The Art Auction or something like that. In The Gallerist, you're placing your workers on different actions like buying art, promoting artists, or selling pieces. The auction stuff comes in with the visitor tiles and the contract system, not the main gameplay. So yeah, you're right that it's worker placement at its core, but there's a little auction element tucked in there too. It's not the main focus though.
