DAE realize they've been shuffling board game cards wrong for years?

I just figured out after like 6 years of owning Catan that you're supposed to alternate the number tokens alphabetically, not just toss them in random spots. A guy at my local game shop in Austin pointed it out when he saw me setting up for a game night. Felt like a total noob. Anyone else have a late-game rules revelation like that?

Blew my mind too when I found out about the alphabet thing. I always just threw the number chips wherever they landed like some kind of barbarian. But honestly, half the time my group still argues about whether we should follow the official rules or just do it our own way. Makes me wonder what other basic stuff I've been messing up all these years, like am I even playing Monopoly right or just winging it forever.

Six years of random number tokens sounds like a great way to keep everyone guessing.

Honestly I feel like people get way too worked up over this stuff lol. Like is it really gonna ruin your whole game night if someone tosses the number chips wherever? I used to just put them in a pile and pull random ones out and nobody even noticed @james_bell. Same goes for Monopoly, pretty sure half the rules everyone argues about are just made up anyway. Unless you're playing in some official tournament I doubt a few random tokens are gonna break the game.
