Had my board game night crash hard last Friday - literally
I was hosting a 6-player game of Scythe last Friday, and right when we got to the final round, my dining table leg just snapped. The whole board flipped, metal mechs went flying, and we lost about 3 hours of play. I scrambled to grab some wood glue and a clamp from the garage, but the table is still wobbly. Has anyone else had their game night ruined by something stupid like furniture failure?

Man, that's rough. I've had a table flip before but not from the leg actually snapping - my group just got a little too enthusiastic about a game of Risk and bumped it hard enough to send everything flying. I ended up reinforcing my table legs with some cheap metal brackets from the hardware store after that, and it's been solid for years now.

Honestly, I used to think metal brackets were just a lazy fix for people who didn't want to buy a real table. But after reading this, I'm kind of rethinking it. My buddy had a cheap IKEA table that split right down the middle during a heated game of Settlers of Catan, and we spent an hour cleaning up pieces off the floor. I always figured you needed a whole new table or some fancy wood glue and clamps. But you guys are making a solid case for just a few bucks at the hardware store changing everything. Tbh I might grab some brackets this weekend for my own gaming table before it becomes a problem too.

Whoa hold up @logan561, I gotta jump in here real quick - Risk is actually way more stable than people give it credit for, the game has a really wide base that makes accidental table flips kind of hard to pull off unless the table itself is already wobbly. Those cheap metal brackets you mentioned are honestly a lifesaver though, I did the same thing after my friends got a little too into a 6-player game of Axis and Allies and one of the legs started splitting at the joint. Sometimes the simplest fix is the best one, just gotta remember to drill pilot holes first so you don't crack the wood.
