I finally got my game group to stop arguing about rules by using a timer

We were stuck for 20 minutes on a turn order dispute in Scythe last week, and I grabbed the 3 minute sand timer from Boggle. I said we'd vote after it ran out. It worked so well we now keep it on the table for any rule check. Has anyone else found a simple tool that keeps game night moving?

Notice how we all create little rituals to keep peace, like your timer or a talking spoon at dinner.

Our group uses a red d20 as a designated rules judge token.

Ever notice how groups make these little systems to keep things fair? Like a red die for rules calls, or my bowling team having a special towel you have to hold if you complain about a bad roll. It's a way to hand over authority to an object so no one person feels picked on. We do it everywhere, even at family dinners with a talking spoon for who gets to speak next.
