I finally talked to a player about sneaky moves in our game group

During a game of Risk, a friend kept moving pieces when others weren't looking, which gave him an edge. I pulled him aside after and said it messed with the fun for everyone. He agreed to stop, and our next game felt much better. Have you ever had to deal with something like this?

Sometimes people take board games too seriously. Moving pieces when no one is looking seems like a small thing to get upset about. It's just a game, and everyone gets competitive sometimes. Pulling him aside for a chat might have made it into a bigger deal than it was. Idk, maybe it's just me, but I don't see why a sneaky move needs a full talk. Glad your next game went better, but was it really that bad?

Ugh, I get what you're saying but it adds up. Last game night my cousin kept "forgetting" to pay rent in Monopoly. It wasn't about the fake money, it was about sitting there for two hours knowing the rules didn't matter. Calling him out felt awkward but now we actually play the same game. That trust is the whole point of hanging out.

Ever think cheats in board games are no big deal? I used to shrug off stuff like that too. But then I saw how it kills the fun for everyone. Like in a game of Sorry, a friend kept moving extra spaces when we weren't looking. It made the whole game feel fake. After we called it out, games got way more fun because we all trusted each other.

See, what hits me is how cheating hits everyone in the group differently. For the person who just wants to hang out, it's a small thing. But for the person who really got into the game and planned their moves, it feels like the whole night was wasted. It's not just about winning, it's about feeling like you all agreed to play the same game. That tiny lie can make the whole night feel bad for some people, even if others don't care.
