Just spent 4 hours trying to sort out the rules for a 1990s German board game I found at a thrift store

It was this game called 'Die Macher', the box was in German and the rulebook was a mess of tiny print. I thought I could just find a quick summary online, but every forum thread I read had geeks arguing over different interpretations of the coalition scoring phase. My game group was supposed to start in an hour and I was the one who brought it. I had to translate and cross-reference three different FAQ pages from BoardGameGeek. Has anyone else had a game night derailed by a rulebook that felt like a college thesis?

Honestly, that sounds like my worst nightmare with a game night.

My buddy Dave had a similar meltdown with an old war game called "Titan". The rulebook for that thing was like 80 pages of charts and exceptions. We just sat there watching him flip pages for an hour before we ordered pizza and played something else.

Used to think those old rulebooks were cool, but @nathan100's story about Dave and Titan makes me glad for simpler games now.
