Met a guy at a con who called his copy of Cosmic Encounter his 'divorce settlement'

He said his ex-wife got the house but he kept the game and that was a fair trade. We ended up playing for 3 hours straight and he taught me a variant I'd never seen before. Anyone else got a game with a story like that behind it?

Question whether a board game is REALLY worth giving up a house over. I mean Cosmic Encounter is a classic but you can find a used copy for like 40 bucks these days. Feels like the guy just wanted a good story to tell at cons rather than actually making some kind of fair deal.

Back in 2019 I traded a copy of Twilight Struggle signed by the designers for a 1996 first edition of Netrunner that still had the original shrink wrap on it. The guy was moving cross country and needed to lighten his load, figured the Netrunner was just taking up space. I still think about that deal sometimes, it was totally worth it even if the market value was lopsided. Did you ever find out what that variant he taught you was called?

Maybe it's just me but I feel like a game can be worth way more than its market value if it brings you joy for years. Sounds like that deal worked out great for both of you in the end.
