My 3-year-old D&D group fell apart after one guy brought a spreadsheet

This guy showed up with a combat simulator he built in Excel and started calculating probability for every move, suddenly our casual theater of the mind game turned into a math seminar. Has anyone else had someone's optimization habit completely kill the fun at the table?
