My buddy's copy of 'Scythe' got wrecked because he stored it in his garage attic

The heat and cold warped every board and card in the box, and he didn't notice until our game group tried to play it last weekend. How do you guys store your big box games to keep them safe?

Garage attics are basically game murder zones lol. The real killer is humidity, not just the heat or cold. Moisture gets into the cardboard and makes it swell and warp way worse. I keep my expensive stuff on an interior wall in the house, never against an outside wall where the temperature changes more. A cheap humidity meter can show you if a room is actually safe for long term storage.

Yeah the "real killer is humidity" line is so true lol. I learned that the hard way too, my old apartment had a closet against an outside wall and all my boxes got that weird soft feel. Drew_hart4 mentioning Terraforming Mars getting wavy is exactly what happened to my copy of Scythe, it was brutal. Now I'm paranoid and keep a little humidity meter right on my game shelf. It's crazy how much difference moving stuff just a few feet to an inside wall makes.

Honestly, that point about humidity being the real killer changed how I store my games. I used to just worry about keeping boxes out of direct sunlight. But after my copy of Terraforming Mars got all wavy and soft, I checked my game room with a cheap meter. The humidity was way higher than I thought near my outside wall. I moved everything to a closet on an inside wall and it made a huge difference.
