My dad taught me Catan in 1998 and I just now realized he was cheating the whole time
Growing up my dad always won at Catan and I thought he was just some kind of genius. Last weekend we played for his 70th birthday and I watched him trade 1 wood for 3 ore with my sister, which is not a legal trade. I started digging and found out he had house ruled like 6 things over 25 years, stuff like moving the robber for free and getting 2 roads for the price of one. It hit me that I learned the game wrong for two decades and had to relearn basic stuff at 38 years old. Tbh I'm not even mad, it was his way of keeping us at the table longer on Sunday nights. Has anyone else found out years later that their main game group was playing with made up rules the whole time?
