People keep misusing the term filler and it grinds my gears
I was at a game night last Saturday in Arlington and this guy pointed at a solid mid weight euro and called it filler because it only took 45 minutes. That is not what filler means. Filler is something like Love Letter or Sushi Go that you play while waiting for the rest of the group to show up or between bigger games. Calling a real game filler just because its short makes it sound like its disposable and then new players get confused about what to expect. I have been running a monthly meetup for about 3 years now and this mistake happens at least once per session, usually by someone who only plays heavy stuff. It matters because it changes how people pick games for the night and can lead to actual disappointment when the so called filler turns out to have real strategy. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just being a stickler for categories?
