PSA: Tracked my board game group's attendance over 6 months and we lost half the table
Back in January we had 11 regulars showing up every Tuesday at the shop in Portland. By June we were down to 5, and I finally pulled up the old group chat to figure out where everybody went. Three people quit after we switched from lighter games to a heavy 4-hour campaign that one guy pushed hard for. Two more just drifted off when we moved the night from Tuesday to Thursday for his schedule. Was it the game choice or the night change that killed us, and how do you decide without just blaming the loudest person at the table?
Did the Tuesday vs Thursday thing get talked about before it changed, or did it just get announced? I ask because in my old group we moved nights for one person and nobody said a word, but turnout quietly fell apart for months. Turns out two of the quiet ones had kid pickups on the new night and felt weird making it a big deal since the loud guy had already "won" the campaign fight. Maybe look at who never argued at all instead of who argued the most, because the people who left without a fuss usually had the real reason.
