Rant: My FLGS owner told me to stop buying new games and it actually worked
I hit 100 games in my collection back in January and my shelf situation was rough, stacks on the floor and everything. The owner of my local shop in Portland, Maine, a guy named Dave who has been running tournaments there for 15 years, told me flat out that I should stop buying for 6 months and play what I already own. I laughed at him at first because that is bad for his business, right? But he said I would buy more games I actually love if I figured out what my group really plays. So I tried it. I made a list of every game on my shelf and tracked what hit the table. Turns out 38 of my games had never been played once, and my group kept coming back to the same 4 or 5 titles. I traded 22 of the unplayed ones at his shop and came home with store credit and 2 games we have played 9 times since. Dave was dead right and it kind of bugs me. Anybody else ever get told to slow down by a shop owner? Did you listen?
