Shoutout to my local game store for hosting a 'teach a newbie' night that completely backfired on me

I tried to teach my neighbor Catan last Tuesday, thinking it was a simple starter game, but after three hours of him getting super into trade negotiations and blocking my longest road, I learned that sometimes the new player becomes the biggest geek in the room, right?

Lol that's the best kind of backfire though. You unlocked a monster. The quiet ones always come for your longest road, it's a known rule. Sounds like you created a real board game villain.

You've just created your own worst enemy for next game night.

Friend did that, next week he got blocked in by 3 wood ports.

Totally get that. I just started hoarding sheep cards and let them come to me.

Question whether it's really that serious, @brianm66, or if we're just overthinking a game of sheep and wood.
