Unpopular opinion: logging 100 plays of a game does not make you an expert on it
I hit 100 logged plays of Wingspan on my BGG tracker last month and honestly I felt like I barely knew the game. The popular idea in this hobby is that play count equals mastery, but 60 of those plays were two-player games with my neighbor Dave at his kitchen table in Rochester, and we basically ran the same engine strategy every time. It was reps, not learning. I started mixing in solo mode and 4-player games and my win rate against new groups dropped, which told me more than the 100 number ever did. So for people who track plays, do you actually count the number, or do you count the games where you tried something new?
