Appreciation post: I was wrong about that new ceramic fiber blanket
For years I stuck with the old school mineral wool for boiler insulation, thought the ceramic stuff was just a gimmick. My boss at the plant in Gary made me try a roll on a new economizer install about 6 months ago. The heat loss numbers after a full quarter were way better, like 15% better, and the stuff handled the vibration without crumbling. I'm a convert now, lol. Anyone else switch over and see real results?

Wait, 15% better? That's a huge claim. Are you sure the old stuff was installed right in the first place, or was it just worn out? I've seen numbers get skewed by a dozen other things on a boiler system.

Honestly, I was in the same boat. Then I saw the before and after fuel bills from a neighbor's identical setup. It's hard to argue with the actual numbers.

My cousin's old furnace was so bad the repair guy just laughed and said it was basically a space heater.

Right there with you. My neighbor made the same switch a few years back and showed me his actual bills. His December heating cost went from like $280 down to $190, and that was with a colder winter that year. Hard to argue with that kind of drop. Felt pretty stupid after that for dragging my feet so long on my own upgrade.
