Found a way to reuse old gaskets that cuts down on shop waste

Soaking them in a mild solvent and checking for cracks lets you extend their life. Saves money and keeps stuff out of the bin.

Last summer, cousin Jerry in Toledo tried to fix his garbage disposal with a paperclip. It started humming the theme from 'Jaws' every time he ran the dishwasher. We thought it was a prank at first, but no, it was REAL. He had to call a plumber who laughed for a solid ten minutes. Now every time I visit, I half expect the sink to growl at me. Stuff like that makes you wonder about the secret life of appliances.

Wait, is this a thing now? My old microwave used to beep the first few notes of "La Cucaracha" whenever the timer went off. Freaked my dog out every single time.
