Hit 500 hours on my Miller before realizing I never changed the liner

Oh man, that is a classic move. I've done similar things with my welder and then wondered why my wire feed was acting up. At least you got 500 hours out of it, that liner must have been on its last legs.

Got a buddy who ran his MIG welder for three years before figuring out the liner was completely clogged with copper dust. He said the wire was feeding like a nightmare for months but just figured that's how it was supposed to feel. Cleaned it out and finally got smooth bead for the first time, felt like a new machine.

Funny you mention that, @ross.lily... I had the same thing happen with my old Hobart. Wire was birdnesting like crazy for like a year, finally took the whole thing apart and found a wad of copper dust the size of a pencil eraser. Cleaned it out with some compressed air and it ran like new.
