Just realized my bevel machine needs way less pressure than I thought

I was grinding a 45 on a 1 inch plate in Houston last Tuesday and kept pushing down hard on the bevel head like I always do. The cut came out kinda wavy and the wheel glazed over after maybe 6 feet. I backed off the pressure and let the machine do the work and it cut smooth as butter for the whole 20 foot piece. Has anyone else noticed that forcing it just makes more work for yourself?

Funny how that works @annajenkins, used to think more pressure meant faster but this post changed my whole approach.

Yeah I used to be the exact opposite. I thought leaning into it harder would just make it cut faster. But I tried backing off on a plasma table setup last month and it was like a completely different machine. The finish was way cleaner and I didn't burn through wheels nearly as fast. It's crazy how hard it is to unlearn that instinct to push down. Feels wrong at first but the results speak for themselves.
