Seeing a lot more pre-assembled boiler parts lately. What's the deal?

I've been in the trade for about ten years now, and I've noticed a big change. More and more jobs are using pre-made boiler sections that just bolt together. On a recent site, we didn't do much welding at all, just connected the pieces. It felt weird, like we were missing out on the real craft. I remember when every job meant custom fitting and welding from scratch. That was hard, but it felt like real boilermaking. Now, it's all about speed and ease. I'm not sure if this is good for us in the long run. What do you all think about this trend?

Totally get that feeling of losing the craft.

Honestly, is the new "craft" just seeing how fast we can make stuff fall apart? Charles289, speed might keep the lights on, but it also gets me a bookshelf that wobbles if I look at it funny. Feels like we're racing to the bottom and calling it progress.

Disagree about "real craft." Speed keeps us in business.

That line about speed keeping us in business really hits on something bigger. I see it everywhere now, where getting things done fast is more important than getting them right. It's why my new bookshelf feels cheap and why customer service feels like talking to a wall. We're all trading little bits of quality for that hurry, and it adds up. It feels less like moving forward and more like we're all just skipping what actually matters.
