Seeing the steam from my last job changed my take on insulation
Always thought thick insulation was overkill. Just extra work for little gain. Did a boiler upgrade at a food plant. Their energy use dropped thirty percent after. Now I see it cuts fuel and emissions big time. Pushing for better insulation on all my bids. The environment and the budget both win.

My buddy used to joke that adding more insulation was just padding the bill. He worked on a warehouse retrofit where they skipped the extra layer to save cost. The next winter, the heating bills were so high the owner called him back in a panic. They ended up redoing it properly, and the energy use dropped by a quarter. He doesn't make that joke anymore. Turns out skimping on insulation is like leaving the window open all season.

Ever try that reflective foil stuff in your attic?

In Colorado, homes with bad insulation often waste 30% of their heat. It escapes through attics and walls, making furnaces run constantly. My neighbor added blow-in cellulose and his next gas bill was half what it used to be. That payoff happens faster than most people realize.

Wait, the energy use dropped by a quarter? That's insane. It's like they were literally burning money all winter. I can't believe anyone would skip insulation to save a few bucks. This is why you always do it right the first time. Stories like this make me wonder how many other places are wasting energy the same way.
