Showerthought: That week we had to replace the entire steam drum baffle on the old Babcock & Wilcox unit at the Detroit plant with the wrong size plate stock.
We had to cut and weld every single new baffle plate by hand over three 12-hour shifts because the mill sent 3/8 inch instead of 1/2 inch, so what's the most creative field fix you've ever had to pull off for a wrong part?

Honestly, that sounds like the supplier's fault, not a creative fix. I'd be sending that plate stock back and billing them for the delay. Making your crew work triple shifts to fix their mistake isn't clever, it's just unfair.

Yeah, but what's the other choice when you're in a bind like stone.river said?

Had a buddy @dylan_brown30 who once did exactly what stone.river described, kept running a bad batch through overtime to hit a deadline, ended up with a whole lot of scrap metal and a pissed off safety inspector. Sometimes shortcuts just cost you more in the long run.
