Appreciation post: the starter at my club said my bonus hole play was 'all show, no go' and honestly he was right
Last week at Twin Oaks I finally got picked for a sudden death tiebreak on the bonus hole and I hacked it into the reeds on the first swing. Our starter, Dale, walked over and said flat out, 'you treat that hole like a photo op, kid.' Hurt my feelings for about two minutes, then I thought about it and he was dead on. I had been practicing the flashy tee shot all season but never once worked on my second shot into that weird sunken green. Spent 40 minutes after the round just dropping balls from 60 yards and chipping up the slope, and I've already saved par twice since. How do the rest of you guys prep for the bonus hole, or am I the only one who skipped the boring part?
