A woman at our library book club said we should stop reading fiction.

This was last Tuesday at the downtown branch, and she argued that only non-fiction teaches real things. I told her that fiction builds empathy and helps us see other lives, but she just shook her head and said it was a waste of time. Has anyone else had a book club member try to cut out a whole type of book?

Maybe she's just mad because the last novel she read had a character who was way more interesting than her.

Ha, viola_lopez30 that line about being mad the character is more interesting actually hits close to home. I've totally caught myself comparing my life to a fictional detective and feeling kinda dull in comparison. There's this one book I read where the main character went on these crazy adventures and I spent my Saturday doing laundry. It's not about being jealous exactly, more like realizing your own plot could use a little more action.

Notice people who only read fiction often seem more interesting than those who stick to facts.

Honestly my uncle only reads biographies and he's the most boring guy I know.
