Am I the only one who saw a book club debate blow up?

We picked a book with a tricky ending. Everyone argued for hours with no resolution. Felt like a waste of time.

Notice this happens everywhere without a simple rule to fall back on. Traffic snarls up because no one knows who should merge first. Roommates fight over dishes until someone just makes a chore chart. Like elizabethwilson said about voting on book takes, having one dumb basic rule stops the endless talk. My group chat picks a movie the same way now, everyone sends one pick and we roll a die. It is not perfect but it gets you past the fight.

Rules just hide the real problem though.

My book club read 'The Silent Patient' last year. We fought over the twist for two whole meetings. What helped was voting on three main takes on the ending. It forced us to pick one and move on, even without agreeing. Now we choose a moderator for books with tricky endings. This saves time and keeps things from blowing up.

Value those messy talks because they show the book mattered.
