Forked over $80 for that fancy book club debate guide and all we got was drama

My book club spent 3 months arguing over which version of the debate guide to buy for our monthly showdowns. I finally caved and dropped $80 on this premium online debate kit that promised structured topics and scoring. Instead, it gave us these canned arguments that felt like homework, and half the group just stopped showing up because it killed the fun. Has anyone else seen a debate resource actually make a group worse instead of better?

Our group spent a month fighting about the scoring system instead of the books.

A month on a scoring system sounds like you guys just wanted to argue more than read, tbh. That's way too much time on something that should be pretty simple.

Jumped into a book club like this once. We spent like three weeks arguing about whether we should weight each chapter equally or give bonus points for hard themes. It was ridiculous. I mean, we basically forgot to talk about the actual story itself for the first few meetings.
