My book club hated a popular novel and I ended up loving it more alone
I read The Midnight Library by Matt Haig for our March meetup, but everyone else trashed it as too predictable. I actually got way more out of reading it solo, especially the chapter where Nora talks about alternate lives at 3 AM. Has anyone else had a book hit harder when you ignore the group's take?

Good heavens, they really trashed it that badly? I picked up The Midnight Library on a whim and that 3 AM chapter made me put the book down and just stare at the ceiling for a good ten minutes.

Man, that's exactly how I feel about a lot of things these days. It's like when everyone tells you a movie is overrated and you end up watching it alone at 2 AM and it hits you in a totally different way. I swear, the noise of a group can drown out the quiet moments that actually make a story stick with you. That 3 AM chapter you mentioned sounds like the kind of thing you need to sit with by yourself, not argue about over snacks.
