Our club picked a 600 page book and 9 of us faked it at the meeting
We voted on this monster of a book back in March, 612 pages small print, and I was one of the 9 people who showed up to the meeting having read maybe the first 80 pages. The one person who actually finished would not stop quoting page numbers and asking us what we thought about the sister character who apparently dies in the middle, and we all just nodded. I made it worse by guessing at the ending and getting it dead wrong, which the finisher caught right away. So now we have this rule where the host has to split long books into chunks with actual dates, and it has turned every meeting into a homework check. Three people quit the club over it because they said it stopped being fun. I am honestly not sure if chunking saved us or just gave us a new thing to fight about. Anyone else here have a club that almost fell apart over one pick?
