Pro tip: I tried a silent vote to pick our next book club read and it backfired.
Our group in Madison was stuck between a new sci-fi novel and a classic mystery. I suggested we all write our choice on a slip of paper to avoid peer pressure. The result was a perfect 5-5 tie, which we did not plan for at all. Now we have to pick a third option nobody really wants. Has your club ever tried a secret ballot, and how do you break a deadlock?

Actually, a tie is a planned for outcome in any vote. The real problem is not having a tie breaker rule ready to go.
