Rant: My friend told me to skip the 'required' book for our club last month

Honestly, she said our group in Austin always picks dense stuff and the real talk is about the author's background anyway. I skipped the 500 page novel and just read the bio, and I was totally lost when they argued about a major character's motive for three hours. Has anyone else gotten bad advice that made you miss the whole point of a meeting?

My cousin in Denver gave me that same shortcut tip for a film club once.

Oh yeah, that shortcut is solid. Worked for my friend's book club too. Did your cousin say how they handled the sign-up part?

That sign-up part is always the tricky bit, right? Hope @spencera77's friend had a smooth system for it.

Three hours on one character's motive is wild.
