Rant: our book club keeps picking 600 page doorstops and nobody finishes them
We voted on 4 books for this season and 3 of them are over 500 pages, which means our meeting in two weeks is gonna be 2 people who read it and 9 people who read the wiki. Last time we did this with that 900 page Civil War bio, only 3 people showed up to debate and the rest just nodded along. The whole point is to argue about the book, not pretend we read it. I get wanting to feel smart but a 300 page book gives us way more to fight about than a brick nobody opens. Can we please cap page count at 400 or does someone have a good argument for why big books make better talks?
