Honestly, she said we never really argued, just politely agreed on everything for 10 years. Now I'm wondering if we missed the whole point of reading together.

My old book club in Chicago ran for 12 years just like that. The whole point was to have a calm space to share a love for the story, not to fight over what it meant. Sometimes you just need a break from arguing about everything. That shared quiet agreement was its own kind of friendship.
