Warning: Picking a 300 page novel for our November meetup almost ended the club
Four people quit reading by night two, so we now cap picks at 220 pages after 3 years of this and it has worked way better, but what page limit do you all use when a shorter pick still sparks a good debate?
Oh man, four people bailing by night two stings so bad, and I totally get why that shook the club. Honestly a 220 cap after three years sounds pretty smart, since finishing the book together seems to matter way more than the page count. Our group tried a 250 limit for a while, and even that felt like too much for some folks, so we dropped down to around 200 and people actually show up ready to talk. The funny thing is the shorter books often get us going more, because nobody is rushing to the end just to say they finished. Sorry that meetup almost fell apart, but it sounds like you all landed in a good spot.
