A guy at the Portland book fair told me my Coptic stitch was 'too tidy' and I still think about it
I was at the Portland book fair back in March showing a Coptic journal to a guy who ran a booth two tables down, and he flipped through it and said my chain stitch was too even, that it looked machine made. He said his teacher back in the 80s would make students stitch blindfolded so their hands learned the tension instead of their eyes, and that uneven stitches show the book was made by a person. I've been trying to loosen up my stitching on purpose since then, but I'm not sure if that's real advice or just his thing. Do you all try to keep your stitches uniform or do you let them go a little loose and human looking?
