Appreciation post: the guy at Hobby Lobby in Dayton showed me how to grain my board right
I was in Dayton last Saturday picking up some chipboard and this older fella watched me grab a sheet off the rack going the wrong way. He walked over and turned it 90 degrees, then said "you'll fight that board for the rest of your life if you cut it cross grain." I had been doing it wrong for about 6 months on my little case binding projects and just thought my boards were warping on their own. He spent maybe 10 minutes with me right there in aisle 12 showing me how to feel the grain with my thumbnail. Does anyone else still catch themselves checking grain on cardboard boxes at the grocery store now?
