Found a cheap way to keep my book press from marking leather covers

I was working on a leather-bound journal last week and my old press was leaving faint dents on the cover. I tried putting wax paper between the boards, but it still showed. On a whim, I cut two squares from a cheap foam kneeling pad I had in the garage, maybe half an inch thick. I put the foam between the leather and the press boards, left it for a day, and it came out perfect with no marks at all. Has anyone else found a good buffer material that doesn't cost much?

Ever notice how the best fixes are just random stuff we already have lying around? Your foam pad trick is a perfect example, lol.

Oh man, I used to always run out and buy a special tool. Now I'm just digging through my junk drawer first, it's way better.

Tried using leftover felt from an old craft project.
