Had the worst glue disaster of my life last Thursday
I was trying to glue up a text block for a customer's restoration job and my PVA bottle exploded all over my workbench, ruined a 1940s novel I was repairing. Has anyone else had a bottle just give out on them like that?

Man, that "stream shot across the shop floor" part really got me because I had almost the exact same thing happen with a tube of super glue a few months back. The tip was clogged so I gave it a good squeeze and it popped right off, sending glue all over my hands and a vintage comic I was trying to fix the spine on. Honestly, @davidkim you're right that a 1940s novel is brutal to lose like that - those old paper stocks are a nightmare once they get wet with PVA. What nobody's brought up yet is checking the bottle's temperature before you use it, especially if it's been sitting in a cold workshop or a hot truck. That expansion and contraction can crack the cap or the bottle seam in ways you'd never see until it's too late. I lost a whole afternoon to that comic book mess and I still can't get the smell of glue out of that room.

Had a gallon jug of wood glue do that same thing to me a few years back. The cap was cracked and I didn't see it. Squeezed it and a stream shot across the shop floor and onto a bookshelf I was building. Took me two hours with a scraper and a heat gun to clean it up. That 1940s novel sounds like a real loss.
