Pro tip: counted my stitches on a single book and hit 8,473
I was rebinding a 400 page novel last weekend and got curious halfway through, so I started tallying up the stitches as I went. Figured maybe a couple thousand at most. By the time I finished the text block I was over 8k and it totally blew my mind. That's not even counting the endbands or cover sewing. Has anyone else ever actually counted their stitches on a full book? Curious what numbers you get.

Did you at least round up to an even number or did you leave it hanging at 8,473 like a monster? I feel like that's the kind of thing you tell yourself you'll never do again but then three books later you're back with a tally sheet and a headache. I've never counted my stitches but I once timed myself sewing a signature and did the math for a whole book, came out to like six hours of just stabbing paper. Pretty sure I'd rather not know the exact count.

I'll be honest, I used to roll my eyes at people who counted stitches. Seemed like a waste of time to me, like what's the point? But then I got into multi-signature binding last year and realized how much goes into each book. I did the math on a 300 page journal I was working on and came up with over 5,000 stitches for just the text block. That changed my whole view. Now I get why someone would track it. It puts the work into perspective, you know?
