Serious question, has anyone else had a core box just SHATTER on them?
Last week in my shop, a 3-year-old maple core box I was using for a quarter leather binding just exploded under the press... Anyone know a more reliable supplier or have a fix for this?

Gosh, that's rough, really feel for you on that one. A core box just exploding under the press is a nightmare you don't forget. Hope you find a solid replacement soon.

Did you check the grain direction on the core? I've had ones that were cut wrong split along the grain under pressure.

Split along the grain under pressure" sounds pretty dramatic... I get the theory but how much pressure are we really talking about here. Most of the time the core is so buried in other materials it's not a solo player. Seen plenty that were cut every which way and they held up fine.
