Stopped by a bindery in Chicago and saw something weird

I visited a small bindery in Chicago last weekend and noticed they were using old wooden presses for everything, even modern repairs. They said it gave them more control on delicate leather work, which I'd never thought about before. Anyone else tried going old school with equipment like that?

My buddy who restores vintage bookbinding equipment told me a similar story. He tried a 1920s blade sharpener for his tools and said it made a cleaner edge than anything modern. Said the old stuff just has a different feel in the hands. Funny how that works out for some people.

1920s blade sharpener? That's wild.

Read somewhere that old tools force you to slow down and pay more attention.
