Watching a binder in Kyoto use a bone folder on a single sheet totally changed how I handle my own paper grain.

I was in this tiny shop near the Nishiki Market and saw her crease a test fold without any cracking, which made me realize I'd been forcing the paper instead of letting the tool do the work.

How did you even figure out paper grain mattered? I used to just fold stuff and get mad when it cracked. Seeing someone who really knew what they were doing made it click for me, like it's not about muscle. Now I always do that test fold first, even on cheap paper, and it's way cleaner.

What's the actual test fold you do to check the grain first?

Seeing a pro handle paper is a total game changer. I used to fight with every fold until I learned to let the grain lead.
