A customer in Salem changed how I see houseplants
I was installing vinyl plank in a lady's living room last month, and she had this huge, sad-looking fern in the corner. I joked that it looked like it needed a drink, and she said, 'No, it's just dramatic. It perks right up when I talk to it.' She spent ten minutes telling me about each plant's 'personality' and how her Monstera, Steve, gets grumpy if moved. I used to think that was silly, but seeing how healthy they all were made me reconsider. Has anyone else had a moment that turned them from a plant skeptic into a believer?

My basil plant gives me the silent treatment, just like @emmam89's friend's fig.

Honestly that makes total sense. My friend's fiddle leaf fig used to drop leaves if she played her music too loud, like it was actually bothered by the bass. Maybe they pick up on more than we give them credit for, like changes in air pressure or something.

Yeah but I've always thought that's just a coincidence... plants don't have ears or nerves. It's probably just the vibrations shaking the pot and messing with the roots or something. My money plant sits right next to my speaker and it's never cared. I think we just want to believe they're listening to us.
