Caught my neighbor watering her garden at midnight last night. Changed everything.
She told me she only waters after dark. Said daytime watering just evaporates before roots get anything. Tried it on my tomatoes. Three days later they perked up like crazy. Anyone else do the late night water thing?

Jump in a little closer to dusk actually, that's what works for me. @jamief67, you're right about the difference for peppers, but I'd add that watering too late can leave moisture sitting on leaves overnight, which can invite fungus. I aim for an hour before sunset so the leaves dry off a bit but the roots still get that deep soak before the sun hits. My zucchini really bounced back once I switched from midday to that early evening window.

My landscaping buddy calls this "working with the rhythm" not against it. He notices the same thing with lawn mowing, early morning when the dew's still on, cuts cleaner than midday when the grass is stressed. Little adjustments like that seem to ripple out into everything.
