I thought talking to my plants was silly, but my basil told me otherwise.

My friend in Portland swore by it for years, saying her tomato plants grew better when she chatted with them. I always figured it was just her being a good plant mom, giving them care and attention. Then last spring, I set up a little test with two basil plants from the same store. I talked to one for a few minutes each day, just normal stuff like 'you're doing great,' and ignored the other except for watering. After about six weeks, the one I talked to was noticeably bushier and had way more leaves. I'm still not sure if it's the carbon dioxide from my breath or the sound vibrations, but something worked. Has anyone else run a simple test like this and seen a real difference?

That basil test is wild, man. It makes me think about how we all just kinda need a little encouragement to thrive, whether we're plants or people. Like, my cat perked right up when I started telling him he's a good boy, and I swear he started eating better.

Three days into telling my fern it was doing great and I accidentally killed it with too much encouragement.

Six weeks isn't long enough for a real test though...
