My 'easy' orchid kit from the garden center was a total flop
I bought that 'Bloom in 6 Weeks' orchid kit for $25, but after 4 months I just got one sad leaf and a lot of mold. I learned those kits are a gimmick and orchids need way more specific care than a plastic pot and some bark. Has anyone actually gotten one of those to work, or should I just buy a healthy plant next time?

Heard those kits are basically a scam from a gardening podcast. They said orchids need way more light and humidity than those little boxes provide. What kind of orchid did you even get in the kit?

Come on, it's a fun little project. My sister got one and her orchid is actually still alive after six months on a windowsill. They're usually just phalaenopsis orchids, the common kind. It's not like they're selling some rare plant that needs a greenhouse.

Wait, your sister's orchid is alive after SIX MONTHS on a windowsill? That's actually wild. Mine from a kit turned to mush in like three weeks. The leaves got all yellow and floppy. I followed the instructions exactly too. Maybe she has some kind of magic window.

Oh man, totally different experience here. I had a buddy who got one of those kits for his birthday and his orchid did surprisingly well for like four months. But then he went on vacation for two weeks and forgot to tell his roommate to water it, and it dried out completely. He tried reviving it with some YouTube trick he saw and ended up overwatering it into a mushy mess. So I think it's more about luck and timing than the kit itself being a total scam.
