My fern rescue from the dumpster behind Greenleaf Nursery is thriving now
I found a sad Boston fern in the trash out back last Saturday, took it home and cut off all the dead fronds, then soaked it in my kitchen sink for 20 minutes. Has anyone else revived a store throwaway, or is there a trick to getting these guys to bounce back faster?
The deep drink trick is solid, but honestly the real cheat code is just giving them way more humidity than you think they need. I put a pebble tray under mine and it went from crispy to lush in like two weeks. That plus a spray bottle on the fronds every morning works better than any fancy fertilizer.
The soaking trick is exactly what I read about in a gardening forum last week, something about how ferns hold water in their roots and need that deep drink after stress. Yours bouncing back that fast is a good sign, just keep it out of direct sun for a bit and mist the fronds if your place is dry.
