My mom told me I was drowning my succulents with love
She came over last month to water my plants while I was on a 5 day trip to visit my sister in Denver. When I got back she pointed at my jade plant and said it looked like a water balloon about to pop. Turns out I was watering them every 2 days because I thought they looked thirsty. She showed me how the leaves get wrinkly when they actually need water and told me to wait until the soil is bone dry. Now I only water them every 10-14 days and they actually look way happier. Has anyone else been overwatering their succulents this whole time without realizing it?

My coworker Lisa told me she was watering her succulents every single morning before work because she thought they needed a little drink each day like her other houseplants. @willowg88 you're totally right we all mess up either way. She finally figured it out when one of her echeverias just melted into a pile of brown mush after a few weeks. Now she sets a recurring reminder on her phone for every 12 days and checks the leaves first before reaching for the watering can.

Wait, you were watering them EVERY 2 DAYS? That is WILD to me. I've been doing the exact opposite and basically ignoring mine for weeks at a time because I heard they're desert plants. Now I'm wondering if I've been going too far the OTHER way and they're all dried out and just too proud to tell me. The wrinkly leaf thing is a game changer, I am DEFINITELY going to start checking for that. Maybe I need to find a happy medium before my succulent collection turns into a crisp collection.

lol honestly I think we've all accidentally tried to either drown or cremate our plants at some point 😅
