My neighbor keeps calling his monstera a 'split leaf philodendron' and it drives me nuts
Honestly, I've heard three different people at the community garden say monstera and philodendron are the same thing. They're not even in the same genus, like at all. My neighbor Greg has this huge monstera on his porch and he argues with me every time I correct him. I even showed him the difference in leaf holes and fenestrations from a botany book I got at the library. It's been going on for about 2 months now and I'm losing my cool. Has anyone else had to deal with someone mixing up common plant names like this?

Did your friend ever get their neighbor to stop calling a peace lily a calla lily?

Is it really worth getting worked up over what someone calls a plant? Seems like a pretty minor thing to stress about.

Did your buddy try showing them the leaf stems? Monstera stems are different from philodendron ones.
