My neighbor's comment about my struggling fiddle leaf fig turned things around

She saw it on my porch in Phoenix and said, 'That pot's way too big, it's drowning,' and moved it to a smaller container right there. Anyone else have a simple piece of plant advice that just clicked?

Stopped watering my snake plant on a schedule after a friend told me to just wait until the soil was bone dry. I was drowning it every week without realizing it. Now I stick my finger about two inches down, and if it's dry, I water. If not, I leave it alone. It's been six months and it's finally throwing up new pups. Sometimes the simplest tweaks make the biggest difference.

Pot size is a huge deal people miss. My monstera was sad for months until I checked for root rot (it had some). Cutting the bad roots and using fresh soil was like hitting a reset button.

Totally, @jessica707, I read that root rot often starts with a pot that's way too big.

My fiddle leaf fig bounced back after I downsized its pot and fixed the drainage!
