My tomato plants doubled yield after a simple change, but I'm torn on why.

I switched from daily watering to deep soaking twice a week and added mulch. Was it the water schedule or the mulch that helped most, and how do you decide?

My neighbor's prize roses came back strong this year after he stopped babying them with sprinklers every evening. It reminds me of your tomatoes because we often miss how things work as a whole system. We want one magic fix, but it's usually the combo, the change in the whole setup, that gets results. Your plants got steady moisture from the deep soaks and the mulch locked it in. Isn't it funny how the best answer is often stopping the daily tweaks and letting a good system do its job?

Forget that, some plants totally need the daily care. My cousin swears by checking her garden every single day and her stuff always wins at the fair. Constant tweaks can catch problems before they blow up.

But is daily care really that needed? Lots of plants do just fine without constant checking. Only serious growers might need to put in that much effort.

Didn't @jessica14's point about less daily fuss prove your neighbor right?
